The health benefits are numerous and have been covered comprehensively in other answers.

  2. Spirulina is advocated as a super food that can do wonders.  Spirulina now used as a nutrition supplement is produced primarily from two species of cyanobacteria also known as blue-green algae. It has to be noted that none of the claims on health benefits of spirulina are verified by United States FDA or any other the regulatory authority. Spirulina is not a prescription medicine and is considered as a dietary supplement. Anyone can take spirulina supplements but do not use it alone to treat any disease.
