What Is The Difference Between 120 HZ And 480 HZ In A LCD TV. Which Is Better

i recently bought a 40" samsung 1080p lcd with 120 hz. i was in the store today and seen a 42" panasonic plasma 720p with 480 hz for $350 less. which is better. 120hz or 480hz. thanks. i also heard you can't see 1080p to about a 50" screen. is this also true. thanks

HZ is the Frequency of sound expressed by cycles per second.

so basically better sound quality
