  1. Twisters are tornadoes, cyclones and typhoons are hurricanes, and hail is ice from the sky. Hail can occur in July if it wants! Snow storms are mild and blizzards aren't.

Tornadoes and hurricanes' different names are affected by where you life in the world. Nothing more. Hope this helps.

  2. It depends on who you ask.

Tornado and twister are the same thing, while hurricane is a classification given to Atlantic storms of such magnitude, and typhoon to Pacific storms. The term cyclone is mostly used as another term for a Pacific typhoon but it can be applied to all hurricanes. I've even seen cyclone used to describe a tornado.

A blizzard is a dense snowstorm.

  3. 1; Twister, is just a colloquial term for a tornado.

2; Depending upon location, tropical cyclones have different names around the world. In the:

    Atlantic/Eastern Pacific Oceans - hurricanes

    Western Pacific - typhoons

    Indian Ocean - cyclones

    But all are tropical cyclones

3; Hail Storm is just a Thunderstorm that is acompanied by Hail and if the hail becomes 1/4 of an inch (Penny Size)  or larger it then becomes a Severe Thunderstorm

4; Snow Storm. The National Weather Service does not exactly use the term Snow Storm

The product that would be issued by the NWS would probably be one of the following.

    Snow Advisory

Issued when accumulating snow of 2 to 4 inches is expected. An advisory may still be warranted if lesser accumulations will produce travel difficulties, especially early in the winter season.

    Blowing Snow Advisory

Issued when blowing snow is expected to occasionally reduce visibilities to 1/4 mile or less with winds generally 25 to 34 mph. The event should last at least 3 hours.

    Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory

Issued when winds of 25 to 34 mph are expected to be accompanied by falling snow and blowing snow, occasionally reducing the visibility to 1/4 mile or less. The event should last at least 3 hours.

    Winter Weather Advisory

Issued for a winter weather event in which there is more than one hazard present, but all precipitation is expected to remain below warning criteria. For example, it would be issued if 2 inches of snow were expected with a small amount of sleet mixing in at times.

    Heavy Snow Warning

Issued when snow is expected to accumulate 4 inches or more in 12 hours, or 6 inches or more in 24 hours.

    Winter Storm Warning

Issued for a winter weather event in which there is more than one hazard present, and one of the warning criteria listed above is expected to be met. For example, it would be issued if 5 inches of snow were expected in 12 hours, with some sleet mixing in at times. It is commonly issued for heavy snow with strong winds of 25-34 mph that will cause blowing and drifting of the snow. A Winter Storm Watch is issued when these conditions may be met 12 to 48 hours in the future.

    Blizzard Warning

Issued for sustained wind or frequent gusts greater than or equal to 35 mph accompanied by falling and/or blowing snow, frequently reducing visibility to less than 1/4 mile for three hours or more. A Blizzard Watch is issued when these conditions may be met 12 to 48 hours in the future.

  4. Tornadoes and twisters are the same,  just different names.

Hurricanes are cyclones but are Alantic based storms.

Typhoons are cyclones too but are Pacific based.

Blizzards differ from snow storms because these have a lot of blowing snow.

Snows generally are less windy than blizzards.

All are a result of cyclonic storms...

  5. You can call any form of rotating winds a cyclone. It just means that the winds rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise in a fairly uniform way.

A tornado is a twister, it forms from a large thunderstorm and is a cyclonic wind that comes from the thunderstorm and touches the ground. A tornado is only called a tornado when it touches the ground. If it does not touch the ground it is just called a funnel cloud. The winds can be as fast as 350 mph. A tornado is usually just a few meters in diameter but they can get up to two miles in diameter! Large tornados only come from supercell type thunderstorms. It takes powerful updrafts to create a tornado.

A hurricane is also known as a cyclone or a typhoon depending on what part of the world your in. A very large rotating tropical storm is called a hurricane when the wind speed is faster than 74 MPH. A hurricane can be hundreds of miles in diameter.

A blizzard is a heavy snowstorm with sustained winds over 30mph.

Hail are pieces of ice that form from raindrops that freeze together. It can occur when temperatures are far above freezing. I've seen large hail on a 100 degree day. They usually only form during a thunderstorm. It is caused by VERY strong updrafts that keep rain from falling. When rain cannot fall it freezes together. The stronger the updraft the larger the hail. Large hail can also mean the storm is capable of producing a tornado.

A snow storm just is when it snows. Snow is just frozen water.  Snow is very fluffy while hail is very dense. Scrape the frost out of a freezer, that is what snow is like. Now get an ice cube out, that is what hail is like. And then you have sleet which is also called pellet snow. It is somewhere in between the two in density but is about 1/4 the size of a pea. Hail can be as large as a grapefruit and can easily kill animals.
