I have a little Homelite XL chainsaw. Does anyone know the gas to oil ratio? It is a smaller one.

  1. If you can't find some documentation, stick with 32 or 40 to 1, and use a good synthetic.  Do NOT run 50:1 on older chainsaws!

Better yet, if you want to ask some SERIOUS experts, wander over to http://www.arboristsite.com  You'll have to register to post a question, but no worries - they won't spam you or give your info to anyone.

Those folks are hardcore chainsaw nuts!

  2. The Homelite XL chainsaws have been around for quite sometime.... I'm not certain if they even make them any more.

They run a 32:1 (4 oz per gallon) oil mix.  I would be fairly certrain that you would be safe running a 40:1 mix of synthetic oil.

  3. Read the mix information on the oil you have. The mix is usually 40 to 1.

  4. Although Homelite calls for a 40:1 mix you'll be perfectly safe by using any of the following premium 50:1 mix oils: Husqvarna, Echo and Stihl. Both Echo and Husqvarna make fully synthetic oil while for some reason Stihl's oil is not. In all of these saws literature nowadays thay call for a minimum of 89 octane fuel. It burns cooler more completely and slower which will help to protect the jug and piston when being worked hard.
