  1. Thunder is the sound made from lightning. When the lighnting bolt strikes, the air molecules near it part, and when the lightning bolt goes away, there's nothing there, where the lightning used to be. The thunder is the sound made from the air molecules coming together.

  2. The crashing or booming sound produced by rapidly expanding air along the path of the electrical discharge of lightning. thunderer

  3. It's god moving furniture :)

  4. specifically: A lighting strike is millions of volts of electricity flowing through the ions in the air to the positive charge in the ground or adjacent cloud. The intense heat causes the air to expand, and since this all happens so fast, its basically a massive expansion of air at a super fast rate. This causes a sonic boom as the speed of the expanding air breaks the sound barrier, and the resulting "boom" or "crack" you hear is that breaking of the sound barrier

  5. lightning and thunder are both associated  with thunderstorms. lightning is caused by a huge electrical spark in the clouds. thunder is caused by the sudden heating of the air by lightning. the heat makes molecules of air along the lightning's channel  expand and collide with cool molecules. this sets up a wave, which creates the rumbling sound of thunder. we see lightning before we hear thunder, because light travels faster through air than sound.

  6. "Thunder is the sound made by lightning. Depending on the nature of the lightning and distance of the hearer, it can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble. The sudden increase in pressure and temperature from lightning produces rapid expansion of the air surrounding and within a bolt of lightning. In turn, this expansion of air produces a sonic shock wave which produces the sound of thunder."  There you are!
