In some schools, a discovery area is a table, filled with different sensory materials like sand, water, soil, rice, beads, etc. In some areas, it is a science set up, with tools for exploring (magnifying glasses, scales, rulers) and items to explore, like seeds, machines, pets, plants, or rocks.

im the nursery where my mum works, they have a table set up in an area of the room. each week they put things of a certain theme on the table....such as scotland, families, doctors ect. this gives the children a change to learn something more on a subject they are interested in.
