San Luis, Arizona is a city located on the U.S.-Mexican border.

If you were to fly in a helicopter from San Luis heading due north, what is the first foreign country you would fly over?

  1. The City of San Luis is in the southwestern end of the state of Arizona, on the Mexican border opposite San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. There is a very small triangle of Mexico protruding directly North of about a 4 mile wide swath of the city.

If you follow I95 North out of San Luis, and continue North where I95 turns East at 18th Street (and again at 16th Street), you will fly over a small, maybe 5 mile stretch on Mexico. But, in actuality, if you were to fly from San Luis you would probably be leaving from Rolle Airfield, which is about 5 miles East of San Luis proper (or the US Marine Corp Air Station close by). You would be instructed to not fly over San Luis to the West and on how to avoid Mexican airspace.

    You would follow those instructions.
