So I want to be a therapist but I also want to be a writer. I love helping people with their problems, people say I am really good at it. And I really love writing, but I dont know what to choose. Also I want to travel a lot, which one will prevent me from doing this. With college coming soon I really need this help!

  1. Therapists make crappy money and also have very stressful jobs.  Writers often find it difficult to find work.  If you are going to be a therapist, you need at least a master's degree.  And even then, you probably will make in the low to mid 30's.  If you can make it as a writer, you will make more money and have more flexibility in your schedule.  I have a BS in psychology and it has taken me three years after graduation to make $30,000/yr.

  2. Go to a big university where you can major in anything. That way you have a lot to explore, and don't worry about not being completely sure about a career path, you have a lot more figured out than most people going into college. Just use that first year in college to take care of some of those basic required courses while exploring a few different subjects. Take a look at the journalism school, maybe PR, or marketing in the biz school. And you can always pick a minor, like English, to compliment your major.

  3. How about being a writer for a therapist?!

    No, I didn't think so.

None of these career options will prevent you from traveling. You can be a therapist and have patients all over the world, in which will cause you to travel alot.

You can be a best-selling author and have people that read your books all over the world. This also will not prevent you from traveling.

The answer you should ask yourself is, do you see yourself 10 years from now writing or helping people with their problems?
