I live in Sacramento and have a JM that's about a year and a half old and about 40 inches tall that I've grown from seed. It's parent lives next door, and both are healthy, but suffer from the fringe browning that the hot sun and winds here tend to impart on JMs.

I've noticed several specimen in the area that seem to avoid the browning- there are two at the McDonalds on Walerga and Elverta, but I don't know what cultivar they are. They are in full sun all day, and never seem to curl or brown.

Thanks!

  1. JM have shallow roots, so I bet McDonalds waters a lot.

  2. Bloodgood would do. Keep it watered well and mulch to keep the roots humid.
