Get him involed with a sport. 11 is kind of young to be looking for a job.

Build a Go Cart.  It will take lots of his time.  Take him to the library for research. Tell him to discover another way to fuel the cart besides gas.  Who knows he may be the first person who will really finds a way that oil is not needed in transportation.  He will learn that math and science is really handy.  As far as a job at his age cutting yards or new paper route.

I agree to get him into something like a sport or hobby. If he is good with his hands and likes cars maybe he could start making model cars. They sell them at places like Wal-Mart. He needs to also possibly get extra help when he goes back to school to get him more involved and help his dislike of being there. He possibly could have a learning disability which might explain him being smart but getting into trouble with the law and not liking school.
