What Keeps a Chocolate Fountain Flowing?

Question

Tell me what you have to put in, how much chocolate, water, sugar, and other things?

What keeps it smooth, and flowing like water? Does the chocolate every run out? Do you have to refill it?

Is it hygenic meaning if someone sticks in their half-eaten strawberry in it, could it cause germs????

You have to use a good german chocolate and I know it wounds wierd but you have to put vegetable oil in it to keep the chocolate smooth and you have to melt ot first, about 3 parts chocolate to 1 part oil I think..  Refilling it depends on how many people are eating it but you probably won't need to.  I had one for a party once (I wouldn't suggest it around a bunch of kids if you like your floors).  

As long as you keep your fruit and cakes small and have picks nearby people won't even attempt to put it back in twice.

put the 6 bags semi-sweet chocolate (any) in a glass bowl and put in a cup of oil. Put the bowl in the microwave for 30 second ... take it out and stir. repeat until its smooth.  look at the consistency of the chocolate ... you might want to add more oil if its still a little thick.

Make sure that you warm up the fountain before pouring the chocolate in.

Its a big no-no to double dip!!!

Once you see the chocolate is low ... the add more melted chocolate in.

Here's a suggestion:  buy pretzel sticks and use it as a pick for the marshmallow.

If you are planning on having a chocolate fountain for a party as large as a wedding, You will need to rent one. The place where you rent it will give you all the instructions you need to operate their machine. You can probably get the supplies from them. If you are getting one of those $50 ones at Target, they all come with instructions. As far as sanitation, you have to rely on the good manners of your guests.
