What Kind Of Cat Should I Get?

One with short hair.

Do they all shed a lot?

I can't even get a cat, my mom won't let me. I'm just asking because I have a five minute obsession with buying one. :)

  1. Adopt one from a humane society and please get your cats and dogs neuterded and spayed please.

  2. Get an ocelot.. I've always wanted one of those :P

  3. not all cats shed a lot!!!

i had a maine coon which is long haired and are really cute

when you can get a siamese they are gorgeous!!!

    :]

  4. all cats shed - except for the hairless (AKA hot water bottle type)

if you do get one, go to the animal shelter. you can get a loving kitty there

  5. yes dear all cats shed,... ALL of them.

    Even hairless cats shed (dandruff).

Its better that - eventually when you can get a cat, go to an animal shelter, because there are cats there that need someone to love them & care for them,... Besides all the cats that can't get sold at the pet store eventually end up in the animal shelter any way.

I'm sorry they don't recycle the cats in the pet store.

If you really want a cat that is bred to be affectionate & talkative, I would highly recommend getting a Ragdoll, they are very very affectionate, loyal & chatty.

  6. Good news, no reason to "buy" a cat (or most any pet).  There are millions that are homeless and awaiting adoption at shelters, rescues and many other places.

However, many of them ended up there because they were not wanted by the entire family.  So please, reconsider an impulse acquisition of a living being that has 20 years of life that you need to provide for.

I missed the shed part.  Short haired cats shed MORE than longer haired cats.  longer hair needs to be brushed as it tangles into the other hair, short hair falls straight out.

Hairless cats are extremely expensive and difficult to provide for.  Their skin needs constant attention, they get infections from just using litter (you have to wipe their butts after potty) and they tend to have all sorts of special dietary needs.

  7. yes cats shed A LOT. even short haired cats If you want to get a cat, be prepared to vacuum... and cats are a lot of money.

  8. If you want to learn more about different breeds of cats, about their personality and physical characteristics, you might want to go to the website for the Cat Fanciers' Association, http://www.cfa.org
