  1. it;s hard to tell what kind of bird it is without seeing pictures.

if you believe that the bird is abandoned, you can try to take care of it yourself or call the humane society and see if there is someone there who can take it.

if you decide to keep the bird, you will need the following things:

    cardboard box or container

    heating pad

    towels

    eye dropper or medicine dropper

    baby food (meat flavors)

and eventually you will need a bird cage

set up the box with the heating pad on the bottom and a towel over the heatingpad.  it is very important that you keep him warm.

he will want to eat all the time, so have the dropper ready with baby food in it.  it's pretty cool to watch them eat.  you will need to use the dropper to feed him, just like a mother bird would.

when he starts to get older and able to get out of the box, you need to get him a birdcage.

the bird will have a better chance if you have a good humane society program for birds in your area, and if you surrender the bird to them.

if this is not possible, at least he has a better chance with you than out in the wild on his own.  it IS true that the majority of baby birds will die in human care, but at least with you he will have a chance.

one more thing, make sure you are washing your hands before and after handling the bird.

  2. Call your local conservation department and ask for help.  Good for you for trying to help the bird.  Please know that, very sadly, most baby birds die in human care.  But you can still try to save the little guy.  That's a very caring thing to do.

  3. Could be a bluebird.  If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:
