What Kind of Card...?

A friend of mine was just in Baghdad, Iraq and is home on leave until Sept 5. His family is having a party for him so he can see family & friends before he leaves for Iraq for a year & then Germany for 2 years+.

My question is, what kind of card (greeting card) do you get for that kind of event? Someone suggested "Thank You...for serving our country" but I don't know?????????

  1. Happy to have you back card.

  2. Get a nice looking blank card. One of those that has a nice photo or painting but is blank inside.

Write him a heartfelt note that talks about your feelings. How you will miss him, how you hope he will come home safe... you get the idea.

I promise you, he will cherish it.

  3. I think you're in the right section.  You're asking about the proper thing to do in a social situation and if that ain't etiquette, I don't know what is!

Anyway, I'm thinking a blank card may be the best answer for you, since this is actually several occasions in one: He's coming home, so it's Welcome back, he's leaving back out, so it's Bon Voyage and he's risking his butt for his country, so it's also a thank you.  I would, personally, get one for each occasion (though I don't know if any greeting card company does any specifically for the military).  If you can't find any that you really like, get a nice blank one and just write how you feel or find a nice poem to put in it.  I'm sure he will appreciate whatever you do as long as it's from the heart.  I would.

  4. I would go with a blank card and write him a note. This way you can express exactly what your thinking.

  5. Most definitely a Thank You card.
