  1. This is from ancestry.com

Americanized spelling of German Risch or of South German (Swiss) Rüsch, a topographic name from Middle High German rusch ‘reeds’, or from a pet form of Rudolf.

  2. Rish is of German origin (Palatinate) and is my grandmother's maiden name.

The original spelling was Resh; changed to Rish in the late-1700's, by John Rish.

I have a lot of info on the Johannes Andreas Resh (1st immigrant to Province of South Carolina) line (9 generations) from the Palatinate in Germany.

Info includes certified land grants, Revolutionary War records, U. S. Census records, Civil War records, etc.

Also have photos of Marcellus Rish and his wife, Arrah Jane nee Rister, my great-grandparents.

If you are a Resh/Rish descendant and would like this info, please contact me at pappysfirstborndaug@yahoo.com
