  1. Hey Kook stay out of my break. Hahhahaah Just kidding. Rent a SOFT long board and once you get the hang of if try a regular stick. Have a good one. Surfing rules

  2. Longboard

  3. a virgin to the surf should get a longboard that way you want get frustrated and give. peace2

  4. get a long board 8-6 through 9'2

its great for small waves, may i ask what island you will be visiting?

oh and the most they charge for flying wit a board it comes out to 50 bucks.

  5. im guessing you should get a ron jon surf board the more expensive the better

  6. a long board, or try an opoxy board if you have the long board down.

  7. Don't bother getting a board before you go... just rent one there. It's not worth the cost. From Los Angeles to Hawaii it typically costs $100 each way to take a board, plus half the time they damage them anyways.

Be sure you get a longboard, (at least 9'), and be sure sure you respect the locals.

Don't for get the sunscreen and rash guards! The sun in Hawaii is super intense, (even in the winter), and the water is warm so you won't be wearing a wetsuit.

I found a decent online shop for rash guards:

    Have fun.  :-)

  8. Just rent what they give to all the tourists for the first time. Even small waves will work you if you've never paddled out. If you're going to be a kook, might as well not hide it.

  9. Longboards r the easiest when first learning. Hope that answered that. Oh, and if u have anymore questions, talk to you're local skate/surf shop. Hope you have a fun time surfing!!! =]

  10. long borad .....................rock on ................dude

  11. Well, if you want to buy one right now and your a beginner, your better off buying a second hand board with thick-ish rails and about 7 to 9 foot, if you think that your only going to use it in Hawaii and a few times at other places, but the expense of taking a board over there kinda isn't worth it. Your better off renting a board over there, it wont cost much, and the dude there can get one that would suit you well... All up, use a rental over there, and if u enjoy it, buy one when u get back.

  12. Dude, if you're going to Hawaii for vacation don't bother buying a board.  Go to a shop there and rent one.  You are gonna end up paying the airline fees to transport it so save yourself some money.  Rent a big soft board so you don't bust yourself up on your vacay and have some fun.  Just remember it's their island so show some respect in the water and stick to what you can handle.

  13. First board should be a funboard around 7'. Waves are small here now so it's a good time for you to start. It'll start cranking up for the big season soon though. Have fun.

  14. Arexx, get a long board the first time.. the bigger the board the more control and balance you have..and try surfing in the white wash before the bigger waves.

  15. 158 pounds... height would be helpful but, best board for you would be about 6'8-7'6, and just want to warn you, dont expect to be ripping up the waves first time out start out on white waters oh and for width and thickness Id say about 3 inches thick and 22 inches wide.  hope this helps, and start out on white waters for about your first month of surfing.
