Question:

What Kind of a Major Would Be Suitable For Me?

I am above average in both math and social science; however, I am not top in my class for either. I am doing a sociology internship right now, and I am taking both AP Statistics and AP Calculus next year as a junior. I also took a sociology class and plan to self-study AP Psychology next year (because I'm interested in psychology but I did not have room in my schedule =[)

Many people have suggested that I do engineering, but I know that engineering is math intensive, and I am not that interested in physics, either. Also, I don't really want to be do history or sociology/psychology specifically, because I want to use my math knowledge to my advantage.

So the big question is, what would be a good major for a student who is above average in social science and math but is not top in both?

  1. You're saying you want to use math but not that much? I think you're going to have to choose between using it and not. You may want to look at communications however. It's related to social science and involves peanut math.

  2. Have you considered accounting?

Accounting uses math, but nothing crazy. If you are doing AP Statistics and Calculus, you def. know enough math to get through that part of accounting. The rest of accounting is a mix, partially comprised of law, business, common sense, economics, scandal, and $$$.

Also, accounting is not as boring as most people think it is. It offers one of the highest starting salaries for college grads.

If you are interested, I suggest you research the profession [there is endless possibly of industrys you can work in], and then check out the programs offered at your choice of colleges.

  3. If you're so unwilling to do history because of your math knowledge, then you should be a great great math student!

You could always do a social science and minor in math.

Or something like bioarchaeology or physical anthropology. Any business degree could let you work in a math environment with a lot of social aspects as well.

  4. i think you have to go Business in Commerce and major in Accounting.

  5. Law, economics, business administration, accounting, finance, biology chemistry, and computer science would be well suited for you.
