What LEGO set did I have as a kid?

I've been browsing through data bases online, trying to figure out what set of lego I had as a kid. I can't figure it out.

It had two or more road plates, one was a straight road, one was either a curve or an intersection. There was a car repair shop, a restaurant, and maybe one other building. It had a few vehicles, one of which I think, was a semi truck/trailer, though I also remember a fireturck, and I'm not sure if this was part of the set. There were cars, too. When constructed with instructions, the road plates where hinged, so that you could have one long street, or fold the whole thing, which closed the buildings and gave you a front and back street. I think the roof of the main building/restaurant/shop had a red sloped roof. It came with several mini figures (lego men), who had little blue and red baseball style hats, and it had those white plastic traffic signs.

I remember my mom surprising me with it in the late 80's or early 90's. Any suggestions on what this set was?

  1. It sounds like you're talking about 6393 Big Rig Truck Stop:

It had 2 road plates (one straight, one intersection), a car repair shop, what might be a restaurant (or waiting area), and certainly some trucks!  The road plates are indeed hinged so the building can close up, or unfold into a longer road.  And indeed a red, sloped roof.  Released in 1987.  Sounds like what you mean, although hard to say exactly.

If that's not it, you can use the advanced set search at Peeron.com-- it may help you narrow things down a little.
