  1. Almost every Italian speaks standard Italian, yet with an accent.

Many Italians speak their dialect also.

In Tuscany it's just the same, but standard Italian is derived from an educated form of Florentine dialect

  2. Italian of course the real Italian language is spoken in Tuscany

other regions have different dialects but all over Italy they understand Italian

  3. Tuscany is an area.  Areas do not talk.  Tuscan people speak Italian.

  4. Italian?

  5. All Italians do speak Italian; at least 2/3 of Italian do also know their own local dialect (in one region there can be lot of dialects, actually); in southern Italy is more likable to find people using dialect more than Italian, in everyday life, but they *do* speak Italian. Just few people amongst the older ones in the south (mainly in Sicily) could possibly still talking their own dialect only.

More common is regular Italian talked with inflections specific from that province or region. But is still regular Italian, and that's apply to Tuscan. Down there, is not very common to hear Tuscan dialect.

P.S.: Tuscany is a region, not a province: as I said above, local dialects or inflections may vary even in the same region :)

  6. I agree with jabou. Even if they speak a form of dialect, it's still Italian.

  7. If you friend knows that it is in Italy, so why this silly question ???

Even if they speak some kind of dialect, people still speak italian.
