What Loctite product should I use?

I have two different rifles that I believe I need to use Loc-tite. The first is a Savage Arms 22 rifle. I am mounting the scope and the mounting screws come loose as I shoot. About 100 rounds and it is loose. The second is on a Norinco SKS Scope mount. After about 50 rounds the screws came loose on the scope screws.

I went to the Loc-tite web ste but there are so many versions.. any suggestions for the version I need to use on the screws?

  1. Use the blue.  Make sure you have removed any oil or grease on the s***w and the hole you will be putting it into.  If you ever use the red the only way to remove the s***w is with plenty of heat.  A little on the end of the threads of the s***w will do the trick nicely.

  2. I use 222 for screws that need help sticking but can be removed without too much force or heat. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/P...

  3. The Loc-Tite product that you want to use is called "Threadlocker".  You can find it at most hardware stores in small containers.  it is a bit pricy so you might want to consider a less expensive alternative.  I have used clear fingernail polish on screws for years with great success.  Just place a drop on the threads of the s***w and run it in tight.  When you want to remove it, just put the screwdriver tight against the head of the s***w just as if you were going to unscrew it and then rap the screwdriver handle a good hard rap with a hammer.  This will shatter the dried polish and let the s***w come out.

  4. you want to use the blue loc tight for the scope mounting screws. NEVER use the red. Red is permanent!! Blue is what I used on every scope I ever mounted, my own or a customers. It holds very very well, yet the s***w can still be removed if needed to repair or replace a scope etc.
