" That is not true. My brother is of "ethnic group Y" ,and he lives in Place X;he says everything is OK, and they are very friendly to him. He says he has never felt any prejudice and is very happy there.

  1. Hasty Generalization for both cases, although the first case is a more blatant case than the second.

    In the first case, a sample of one person's experience is insufficient to support (or refute) a generalization.

    In the second case, the sample is still one person's experience, which is still insufficient to support (or refute) a generalization. However, the indication that the person interacted with a number of people gives more weight to that person's experience, but probably not enough weight to support (or refute) a generalization.


  2. #1:  The law of averages would support nothing happening to someone who's "been there" as opposed to someone who actually lives there 24/7.  

    #2:  People can put on a front and act a certain way while in their hearts, have a whole different reality.  It's an assumption based on social interactions which tend to be superficial.  It may be true as much as it may not be true.
