I am joining the army for school related purposes and to get myself in better physical condition but i would like to know what MOS would be a good choice that will not take up all of my time during my 4-years so i can take one or two college classes and not be over loaded with school and work so i can have some free time to have fun. i got an 86 on my practice asvab and i have not yet taking the real deal yet.

  1. Any position you get, you'll have to get permission from your CO or XO to work a PT job or go to school.  a recruiter works day hours normally.,

  2. Regardless of MOS, it all depends on the unit you end up with.  If you want to increases your chances of having time to go to school and have a part time job, don't go combat arms.  Those guys LIVE in the field.  Go support - administrative, supply, commo, medical services, chaplain's assistant (laid back mos).  Now, just because you're in a support role doesn't mean you won't end up in a field unit or in a combat arms unit.

To increase your chances of getting approval to go to school, keep your uniform pressed, your boots shined bright, and your hair in check.  Make a good impression with your squad leader and platoon sergeant and that'll go a long way.  Volunteer for soldier of the month board and give it your best shot.  The command will look at you as a squared away soldier and will go the extra mile to help you advance in your career.  Sign up for correspondance courses.  All of that will look good on your record when the CO and 1SG are deciding which soldier to allow to stay back and go to school and which soldier to take to the field.

    Good luck.

  3. Depends on your unit. not MOS

  4. Then you are joing for all the wrong reasons, they don't  need you!

  5. the ARMY has no labor laws, that means they will work you sun up to sun down.

  6. x-ray tech very 9:30-16:30

  7. You will have tons of free time while you spend about 10 hours a day at work.  You don't go to school unless they say you can go to school.  If you are infantry, you will have free time when you aren't out patrolling Afghanistan.  The military isn't like it used to be.

  8. Band and recuiting

  9. Why don't you consider going into the Guard or Reserves instead?

  10. clean up crew and bad company

  11. The Army is not something to take lightly.  You are almost certainly going to be deployed within one year.  To reluctantly answer your question tho, it will be your unit that approves the courses, not your MOS.  The 10th mountain offers a part time college option as a retention option but I'm not sure of other units.  The army also offers tuition assistance through all post education centers where you can sign up to take night classes on your time, not the Army's.  If you are looking for free time to go to school, do not join the army.  If you want to serve your country and get some real experience then maybe the army is for you.

  12. anything involving office work where in the real world would get off at 5. like finance. i was in as a 13 bravo wich is artillery, you get alot of free time but it comes with the hardest work you can imagine. also it is a gender specific mos, so, no girls allowed.
