What major should I become in college? I want work in the medical field as either an anethesiologist, pediatrician, or even an optometrist. I've been looking at the collegeboard website, but I'm still not sure what major that one would have to pick to have some of the above career choices.

Oh, and I would not have much trouble getting into UC Berkeley, UCLA, or UCSD. Could someone list these in the order that would be best to worst for my career choices.

  1. When I go to college I plan on studying to become a doctor as well. Which type of doctor? Well there is so many different types of doctors, it will be hard to decided on. So you may want to finish your 4 years of undergraduate then when you enter medical school you will start to narrow your choices. Many people don't decided on the type of doctor they want to be until the end of their medical school year or internship.

I also read alot of comments on yahoo that pre-medicine will not give you a degree. So majoring under biology but taking the pre-medicine courses will help.

  2. Out of those, if you can get into Berkeley, GO THERE...That is like the Harvard of the West...With the obvious exception of Stanford, probably the best university west of the Mississippi...

Most major universities have a Pre-Med program, consisting pretty much entirely of Biology and Chemistry

  3. i think you can major in biology, chemistry, or even biomedical engineering.  I dont think premed is a major, but my school has a "premed track" and I think it is usually combined with a science major.
