  1. Root Beer already has foam because of Carbination. I imagine it is the mixture between the ice cream and the root beer.


  2. Foam is a collection of tiny bubbles.  Bubbles are full of air.  Air is lighter than root beer.  

  3. It's the chemical reaction between an acid (rootbeer) and a base (icecream).  So when you mix the two, you get foam.

  4. The foam is less dense than the actual liquid, therefore it's "lighter" in weight and floats
