I recycle my cans, newspapers, use enegry lights, turn off all my TVs, DVDs, and cable box using a power strip.

Looking for other ways.

  1. I buy CFLs from Earthmate.  Not only do they use less energy, they also have only one milligram of mercury, which is much safer for the environment.  They also put their CFLs in 100% post-consumer content cardboard boxes that are printed with soy-based ink.  I can recycle the boxes after I put the CFLs in my lamps instead of other CFLs that come in plastic packages that are not bio-degradable.  Check them out http://www.earthmatelighting.com

  2. I clean my house with Eco-Sense products by Melaleuca not only does this benefit the environment but, it also makes me not worry about my child ingesting anything that could be harmful to her.

  3. I rode on an electric bike today.

    That was fun...

You could have a whole bunch of solar panels on your roof to charge it and use it instead of a car or motorbike. It cost Australian $1800, which compares reasonably well with a regular road bike.

You can compost your wastes, grow some of your own vegies and start reducing the emissions associated with transporting your food and waste to and from you:)

  4. It is also important to buy products that have recycled content in them to create a market for recycled products.

I reuse the grocery bags, don't buy food from restaurants with Styrofoam boxes, try to buy locally grown products, and shop at local businesses rather than Wallmart or such stores.

I also talk to everyone I know about the importance of green living, and how little things one can do matters on the big scale.

    I'm Eco-fabulous as well :)

  5. 1. Don't print email/letters/stuff unless you really need a hard copy (saves more trees if you just use electronic bank statements).

    2. Bike or take the public transportation when going around your city.

    3. Buy local fruits/vegetables. Not only are you supporting your local farmers but buying locally produced food makes more sense since there's no need to use up more fossil fuels for long-distance transportation of food.

  6. As emo as it may sound to some people, I think everyone who makes a real effort is fabulous.

We are all struggling to wade through a vast media circus of disinformation and conflicting opinions from people pursuing their pet agendas and it takes a lot of work to sort out what really works and what doesn't.

Some people can only make certain efforts as their living situation allows them to and they should still feel good about making what efforts they can.

Myself, I took the opportunity to move in a new direction when my computer consultation business was robbed and destroyed and decided to take the money from selling what was left and put it into a project to build the first themed education center that uses fun activities and entertainment to educate people about how they can have a pleasant and rewarding life while still greatly reducing their impact on the planet and helping ensure a sustainable future for all humanity.

I get to combine all of my interests nature, science, engineering, history, farming, riding, legends and myths and renewable energy into one effort and share it with a huge number of people. It's the best thing I can think of doing with my life, and I get to help other people move in a similar direction as well.

  7. I never use grocery bags. I have cloth bags that I use over and over and over .... for seven years I have used them.

You know the paper bags others throw away?I get one per week for my trash and it does not even get filled up for a family of three. About three fourths of my garbage is compost. So it goes in my garden. I never throw solids down the drain or commode. I never pour grease down the drain. We use a water filter and refill our bottles. We recycle everything we can. We do not use a lot of cups a day. We each have one for the day and lightly rinse it out each time we use it and put it in the fridge. But we mostly drink water all day anyway so it is not a big deal. At the end of the day we wash the cup rather than going through 10 a day.

We take reusable containers to restaurants in case we want a doggy bag. For public gatherings like picnics we take our own plates, cups and silverware then wash it when we get back home. So much gets thrown away at get togethers.

  8. I want to share: My Best Recycling Idea

Besides recycling the plastic containers, you can improve your work or home environments by bringing live potted plants indoors.

    Major items needed:

One empty plastic gallon container.   Tree Top Apple Juice is preferred, or equal in shape.

One empty plastic ½ gallon container.  Langers All Pomergranate Juice is preferred or equal.

Directions:  Lay the plastic gallon container on its side so the front label is facing up.  Place the empty plastic half gallon container on the label and with a sharpie pen outline the bottom on the Tree Top label and with a sharp knife carefully cut the outline.  Insert the half gallon into the hole until it rest on the back label of the gallon container.  Then mark and cut approximately one inch above the cut on the ½ gallon  to complete your planter container.  Remove and drill several ¼ inch holes on the bottom of the ½ gallon cut container for drainage.

Fill the cut ½ gallon planter with one inch of gravel before putting in good potting mix soil and live growing plant.  If you make two or more you can pour the water back and forth and not waste the water with the nutrients.

Go to NASA’s Clean Air Plant Study for the top ten plants that cleans the indoor air better than the rest.   http://www.zone10.com/tech/NASA/Fyh.htm

  9. * Only boil as much water as you need for your cuppa.

    * Put washing outside to dry as soon as it's washed by setting your mobile to remind you as it's not so good if you forget to put it out and have to wash the blessed stuff again (been there done that).

    * Best of all relax and enjoy the environment by getting out there to see, feel, smell and think about the good that is all around us, but for those who don't live near fields and hills, turf your roof?
