What Makes a player a TRUE NEW YORK YANKEE.?

Is it more than Just wearing the Pinstripes, is it how they play in the Playoffs if they are Fan Favorites

To me, it's when they come through the Yankee farm system and play in NY the majority of their career.  There really isn't too many of them.  Look in Monument Park and at the retired numbers.

I feel this way about any team.

A true New York Yankee is one who understands and appreciates the history of the franchise.  He is one who plays with integrity and class whether the team wins or loses.  He understands that there is nothing more special in all of sports than to put on the Yankee Pinstripes and play in the most honored ball park in baseball history.

Derek Jeter is the best example of the modern day Yankee because he knows all about these things.

This whole "true Yankee" thing is pretty silly to me. But I'd judge it by someone who's played with the team for a long time and helped the team become successful or build toward success.

Other than that, I consider a player a Yankee once they put on the uniform. That is, unless they don't claim to be Yankees once they take the uniform off. (See Ed Whitson, Gary Sheffield, etc.)
