When I was young I took Taekwondo and thought it was fun but then the place moved to a different city and I signed up for Judo at the YMCA. I quickly learned I hated Judo, it was all very close combat and throws and I quit. I'm interested in starting some form of martial arts and there are a few in town but I'm not sure what they stand for and I'd rather no try them all out. The other type are......

1)Aikido & Jiujitsu Self Defense Center (Aikido and Jiujitsu)

2)Aikido Center (Aikido)

3)Academy of Karate(Shotokan-style

karate, a traditional

Japanese form of karate)

4)Rozzi Self Defense (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)-I heard this is like judo so I might not like it.

5)Shito Ryu Karate DO Genbu Kai

I heard there is no physical attributes associated but I thought I'd mention I'm 15, 6 '2' and thinish.(As in not fat but not a stick figure, lol)

  1. Stay with the arts that have low kicks, Kenpo, Okinawan, Japanese, I would stay away from Aikido you get thrown too much, you have to learn to take a fall thats true, but you can learn that skill without fall 20 or 30 times a lesson. Aikido as far as I've heard is also very political and has a cult like feel. Not my cup of tea.

  2. i think you would do very well at the Aikido and Jujitsu Self Defense Center. in Aikido we teach lots of joint locks, we mix it in with some throws from jiujitsu, however most places will included striking into the Aikido ciriculum because of the fact that in order for some of the techniques to work it is good to know how to soften up an opponent. if you really want to do a striking art that is nothing like judo i suggest you look for a kempo karate school or try to go back and find a TKD school

  3. try Ishinryu

  4. isshun ruy karate

  5. ...you should try boxing

  6. i prefer shito ryu, i took it for two years, and it is very similar to taekwondo but with less kicking, because tae kwon do is essentially a korean ripoff of karate with chinese influence. shotokan is also very similar to shito ryu. aikido will be alot like jiujitsu  both of which share somethins in common with judo., most tihngs which call them selves self defense classes, are judo.
