What Miami Heat need to do to have a strong chance of a repeat – NBA Feature
It took two seasons for the Big Three to bring home an NBA Championship to Miami Heat. However their real job has just started as they work their way towards building the Heat organization into a dynasty. This puts the Miami management
in a very tough situation as they figure out their strategy for the coming season and look to avoid the what the Dallas Mavericks had suffered in the following season after having won their first ever NBA Championship in franchise history.
But unlike their counterparts – the team they lost to in the NBA Finals a year before, Miami have gone ahead to improve on their already versatile line up. Without having a true centre on the roster, the Heat relied on LeBron James
and Chris Bosh to fill in as a presence in the post but keeping their small strategy in mind, Miami have brought in Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis to spread their offence.
By acquiring two of the best three point shooter in the NBA; Miami can now make the most of their abilities to spread their offence wide. But having shooters on the line up is not good enough for the coming season because defending
an NBA championship requires Miami to play out a whole new strategy.
As part of their strategy to not bring in a big man to their roster, Miami would have their best chance to define the role of Bosh. The power forward would have to adapt to playing at the centre position on a more consistent basis.
However a lot of work is needed to be done as Bosh has been reluctant to play with his basket in the past few seasons and it wasn’t until the closing stages of last season that he started showing his presence in the paint which was one of the main reasons
in their victory against Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.
However Bosh is not the only player that will have to adapt to playing a pre-defined role in this Miami line up. The newly arriving Allen and Lewis, both would have to be very clear on what their position is on the roster and what
they are expected to do. Allen will be expected to fill in on a similar kind of position that he had been given at the end of last season by the Boston Celtics and be a consistent force coming off the bench. On the other hand, Miami will have to take out quite
an amount of time to find out what kind of a role Lewis would be the most productive in.
But one of the main things that would need to change is the amount of minutes James spent playing in the paint. There can be no doubt that NBA’s reigning MVP can adapt to any kind of role on the team but with his physical ability
to matchup with players bigger in size; he could be a key figure for Miami if he plays a more prominent role in the paint.
While everybody on the Miami roster would have to spend some time assessing their new roles in order to win back to back championships, Dwyane Wade’s case would have to be assessed by the Miami management. The shooting guard has
been in injury trouble throughout last season and he would have to take a slow path to recovery if he wants to be a key part of the Miami line up for the coming season.
