What Mitchell & Ness NFL jersey size should I buy?

My dad is 5 foot 7 and I want to buy him a M&N jersey. His chest size is between 42-44 and he wears an XL t-shirt. According to the M&N website, 44 is a large and 48 is an extra large. Which of these should I buy if I want the jersey to fit him properly (the normal jersey fit, properly baggy without floating in it) ? Thank you.
