I usually play on this yamaha piano i bought years ago, but now i am going to college, and i would like to purchase a keyboard, and my budget is $500 or less. The only real specifications i really want is at least 61 keys, but if more great. I hear good things from yamaha. Does anybody have an idea what i should purchase?

*** added note, it would also be nice if i could have a keyboard that i could plug into my mac book so i could record directly onto Garageband.

  1. Have a look through this selection of Yamaha keyboards, there's plenty for sale within your budget.

  2. Nord is the best, but they'll probably run you more than 500 bones.  If you're going through computer just get a MIDI controller, and get all your sounds off the internet.  It means always playing through the computer, but you can be all futuristic like that.  There's another great keyboard called Little Phatty - a mini moog thing.  also pricey.  The old school analog casios have a great sound, but you gotta find em used.  you can record into garage band from the casio's headphone jack, but not midi unless you get a new casio, and their sounds suck!.

  3. My recommendation is Roland or Korg, they are very connectable and compatible and of good quality.
