My mom always told me never take a shower when its lightening because you can get electrocuted. same thing with not talking on the phone. Is there any truth behind this or is this another "old wives' tale"?

  1. i think there is some truth in it

  2. lol

  3. well water is a great conductor of electricity so the shower isn't the safest place to be. talking on a corded phone is very dangerous. the electrical shock could travel through the phone cord and zap you causing injury or death

  4. A corded phone has dangers paired with it, but wireless should be fine. The shower is probably a myth, but water is a good conductor and may increase your chances, albeit slightly.

  5. To Do

It is a good idea to keep computers, t.v.s along with most or all of your electronics off. If they're off, you have less chances off getting struck by lightning. Same thing with staying away from any metal.

    Not To Do

Keep all Electronics on. Be outside. Be by anything metal. Fly. Don't be on a phone of any kind. They may say it's safe to be on a wireless, but that's not so. What If the Phone Tower is hit?

  6. yeah it is true.. you really should use anything electrically powered like a computer, microwave, tv, keep the lights on, whatever during a thunderstorm...

  7. i dont know....

but you really shouldnt listen to an ipod.

some guy got electricuted through his inside his house and his ears started bleeding

the safest place to be is in a car! :D

  8. Well...

don't go stand out in the rain with a lighting rod in your hands. just kidding, haha.

    well...

don't talk on the phone, and unplug appliances, just because it'll burn out all of your stuff if your house gets hit, and you will be electrocuted if you're using them when it gets hit.

  9. Do not stand next to anything that would attract lightning. Like metal for example.

  10. SUNBATHE.

  11. Oh Yes I had a co -workers wife get the phone knocked out of her hand and it then started a fire through the phone lines.

  12. if your talking on a wireless phone, then even if the power lines got hit, you wouldn't be connected to it, you're just holding the phone.  i mean, how likely is it that you'll get killed by lightening in your shower or on your phone?  the chances of that are like the chance of getting hit by lightening when standing outside during the thunderstorm.

  13. Its true, very unlikely but true. If you are standing in water in your bath tub and you have no lightning rod on your house ( a rod that extends well past your roof line and goes all the way down into the earth) and a lightning just happens to hit part of your house and somehow makes it to the water pipe that you just happen to be using for your bath/shower then the water acts as a conductor (a street for electricity to "drive" down) and goes to where your shower is then you could get a little shock. I'm not sure if it would kill you, but it would defiantly ruin a nice cozy shower. So, it is true but very unlikely.

  14. It's true.  You should not take a bath or shower, talk on the phone or use your computer when ther's lightening.

  15. It is true that u should not take a shower when there is a thunder storm if the lightning hits you re house the lightning while go in the water and shock u

  16. We ususally turn all the computers off except mine sometimes because we have one of those really fancy surge protectors, but i still like to keep it off and we don't use anything in the bathroom that has to deal with water, but we could be totally wrong.  We also keep the majority of the electricity OFF.  But like i said, we could be almost completely wrong.

And be careful in Cars.  Don't touch anything metal because the Electricity goes through the metal.  So you can  have your self on the seat and all but don't touch the pillars or something.  That i know is correct...

  17. Point at the sky*,and more importantly leave any outdoor pool immediately!!!(the most dangerous place to be)

*If you find yourself up a mountain in a thunderstorm you must crouch down with your head on your knees away from trees,I live up a mountain!

  18. lean on a lightning rod or a telephone pole

  19. I'm not 100% on the shower thing, but I've been told that too. As for talking on the phone, my grandfather was electrocuted when he was talking on the phone during a storm. Got a good shock too! He was okay though.

I'm pretty sure that's only on corded phones, though. Don't see how you could get electrocuted on a cordless.

  20. There is a chance, but it is remote. If the power line gets hit and you use an electric shower, then the voltage blast can fry your shower and pass through you. However, phones don't work on the electricity net, but on a separate phone line. To get struck when using the phone, the phone line has to get the blast instead.
