Question:

What O3 racket should I get?

I really like how all the O3 look. Which one should I get though. The Prince website doesn't really help me since pretty much all the descriptions of every racket is the same: balanced power and control.

I have a pretty compact swing. Two handed backhand. I like to counterpunch from the back of the court. I never come to the net (I wouldn't want to, IMO baseline rallies are more fun). If I come to the net, its to do a swining volley.

Which Prince O3 racket suits my game more?

  1. If you have a compact swing, then all of them suit you. Almost all of them are for grandmas.

  2. if you want to improve your game, then i think you should get the heavier O3 frames. but if you just play for leisure, you don't need to change anything. it's really ok if you have compact swing, and fortunately some O3 frames like Speedport Silver, Speedport Gold and Speedport Platinum are made to suit players with short and compact swing. hope it helps :)

  3. First of all, I agree. The O3's definitely are very distinctive racquets, and some day i'll try them out just for fun.

Sure, the website will tell you that they all have balanced power and control.  That's what everybody wants in a racquet.  And really, they all do that.  The balance point just varies from racquet to racquet.  This is where you need to know how to interpret the specs of a racquet to know what it's good for.

Basically, heavier, smaller, more head-light means more control.  Basically, these are for more advanced people who can create all the power they need.

Lighter, larger, head-heavy racquets are better for beginners and people who need some help generating power.  These people won't see control as being such an issue.

The trick is to find the one with the right balance for YOU.  Based off what you said, you'll probably need something that's a little lighter, and has either a large midplus head or an oversize.  Since you have a shorter backswing, you won't be able to create enough power to use, say, the 12oz. ozone pro tour.  But you also don't want to get the lightest option.

If you plan on demoing (which i stronly suggest), try the speedport white MP or red.  In the regular O3 series, try the comp hybrid, O3 white, hybrid hornet or hybrid shark.

Most of these racquets would qualify as "tweeners".  Basically, racquets that are good for intermediate players with games similar to what you seem to have.  I throw the speedport and regular O3 white in there as a heavier option.  I usually suggest trying something a little heavier just to see how you like it.  If you do improve beyong the point of having a shorter swing and being a counter-puncher, you will appreciate what the heavier racquet has to offer.  And it will make it easier for you to get to that point.
