  1. To be honest, I've really gotten to like Vista. Aero really polishes off the UI, which is really cool to use. Plug and play works awesome, the only drivers I've ever installed by myself are my laptop's video drivers. But I was going to get modded drivers anyways, so I'll forgive that.

Though I understand that Macs have less security holes, the fact that I'm an avid gamer makes me lean towards Windows every time. I guess it's all a matter of opinion and how you're going to use your computer.

  2. I'll give the pros/cons of each, and let you decide. Haven't used Debian, so can't give that much info on that.

Ubuntu...Good OS. It's stable, and reliable. However, it suffers from the same thing OS X does: software compatibility. Not every program is compatible with Leopard, and even less for Linux distributions. That's the only thing stopping me from using Ubuntu as my primary OS.

XP - Definitely one of the best OSes around. Stable, fast, and reliable. Basically all software/hardware support XP. The only cons are minor, and they are that the search function built-in XP is horrible, the UI looks outdated compared to its successor, standby/hibernate is terribly buggy, and it's definitely less secure than its successor.

Vista - Another of the top OSes around. Stable, fast (if you've got the hardware to run it), and as reliable, if not more, than XP. The inbuilt search function is top-notch, Aero is b-e-a-utiful, and it's built-in apps are more efficient/useful than XP. The only cons are minor as well. UAC can bug some power users, but they'd be smart enough to turn it off. The hardware requirements are a little steep, and the compatibility woes are about gone. The only true con about Vista, is that it has bad press news (e.g., Vista sucks, XP ftw, Keep XP petition)...MS shot itself in their own foot by XP's success.

Leopard (10.5) - One of the best OSes around, no argument. Stable, fast, and reliable - the 3 major aspects of an OS. It has a few cons as well, and they're a bit more significant. Leopard doesn't have many games, mostly the 1/2 that come out each year doesn't count. Every program isn't compatible for OS X too, unlike Windows. However, with the security and features of Leopard, it makes up for it.

Through all of these, I prefer Vista. The reasons above make it my pick as favorite OS.

  3. I really like Mac OS X. I like it because it just works. You plug something in and it just works (there are a few exceptions), no need to worry about drivers. I've been using it for about 4 years now, and its only getting better, and if you want to run xp, or vista on the same machine its easily done via bootcamp.

  4. Windows. I am a Microsoft person. And Windows Vista is only for people that really know how to use a computer. But Apple does make much better audio playing devices.

  5. GNU/Linux

why?  because i can do whatever the c**p i feel like, without having to deal with stupid DRM or Apple machines that don't let you do anything to customize the software or hardware.  look at the new Macbook Air.  you can't even take out the freaking battery!  i mean, come on....  it's more like a really really expensive iPod.

and with a lot of distributions, stuff "just works".  whether you pay money for them (SLED) or not (Mint or Ubuntu).  whatever you can do in Windows, i can do better and faster in Linux.  amazingly, hardware just runs faster and more efficiently, whether it be graphics rendering or raw processor number-crunching.

not to mention the whole "lack of viruses" thing.  sure they're out there, but there hasn't been an uncontrollable outbreak since the kernel was first released back in the day.

  6. With me it is a love hate relationship with windows. I like the fact that you can make a computer inexpensively but I hate the problems with windows. I also like the availability of software so I stick with windows even though MAC os is in many respects better they should have never eliminated the competition or we would all be on MACs now!
