Am looking for an distance learning program for extra courses that doesn't cost over $500.

I know about:

Penn Foster

Continental Academy

First Coast Academy

Citizens

Keystone

Compuhigh

aren't there any other online high schools with good standing?

  1. Take a look at K12.com and see if they offer a virtual academy in your state, and if they do, see if it includes high school.  They are free if it's available where you live.

Edit: In my state (Ohio), they do offer high school classes.  In some states, they only do K-8.

  2. Try this link, and see the many options to explore.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=online+ho...

  3. i agree with darcy34 but k12 only is up to 5th grade i think but still check it out good luck looking for the same thing

  4. I don't know where you live, but here in BC (Canada) some online programs for high school are free. Only international students pay, but you can ask.

    Here is the link: http://www.surreyconnect.sd36.bc.ca/Page...

  5. There are many Universities that offer high school diploma programs through distance learning (correspondence and online).  They are often less expensive than Online High School "businesses" and they are 100% legitimate.

Three that I currently know about are (I am researching to discover more of these):

    Indiana University (classes + diploma)

Harvard University (classes but no HS diploma, AA possible)

    Missouri University (classes + diploma)

I believe all three also offer dual credit options (earn high school and college credit concurrently).

Affordability?  I'm not sure how to interpret your wording. If you mean $500 per year, all of these go over your budget.  If you mean $500 per course, the only one over your budget is Harvard.  If you mean $500 per semester, IU and MU are within that budget.

The 1st link below will take you to all three.

*** You might also want to look into MIT Open Courseware (free) but does not provide any credit / diploma (2nd link)
