  1. What is it that exactly makes these two "far left?"  Is it because of their refusal to kowtow to conservative extremist demagoguery and not voting with Bush 95% of the time, as is the case with McSame?  If so, then kudos to them for it.

It is obvious you twist historical context to suit your own purposes.  The philosophies of both major parties are far different now than they were 150 years ago.  Lincoln was quite "liberal" when compared to the accepted societal norm for that time era.  Even his views on race were considered "progressive" given that most of the public still did not accept whites & blacks on equal footing.  (He believed that even though blacks were "moral and intellectual inferiors," there was still no reason to deny them the natural rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence-the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.) http://illinoisissues.uis.edu/features/2...

Plus, the Southern Democrats were, indeed, hardcore conservatives who consistantly touted "states' rights" to justify forcing the federal government to continue to recognize the institution of slavery and even foster its expansion into the new territories, even if popular sovereignty preferred otherwise.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleeding_Ka...  Also, many conservative Christians used Biblical Scripture as the basis for their pro-slavery stances.

  2. Lincoln.

Southern white conservatives did not like him either.

  3. I personally thought Dennis Kucinich was the most liberal of all the candidates running.

But if you mean in the past, the most liberal would probably have been Franklin Delano Roosevelt with JFK in second, in my opinion.
