What Piggy represents in Lord of the Flies?

I understand what Jack, the signal fire, and all the other things in the novel mean, I just don't get what Piggy and the specs represent (besides wisdom)....

  4. The intelligence and sophistication of society. I don't know about his glasses specifically, but I know that the rest of the boys start ignoring what he says/does, disregarding him, until he's killed, which shows how, when allowed, people will start going wild and ignoring common sense, etc.
