I am currently in my school rugby team and i am sick of playing too many different positions. So, I thought that I would just stick to one position, but don't know what to choose. I am 14 years old, 175cm tall, weighs 65kg with average speed and I can kick well but I can't kick it far. I have good handling skills and off-loads but can't pass it far. I have played Prop, Lock, Flanker, No 8, First Five-Eight (Fly-Half), Second Five-Eight (Inside Centre) and Fullback. Please give me some advice to choose one position.

  1. I'd say flanker.

  2. u sound like a blindside flanker but if you like running short distances tackling ( avoiding rucks) and offloading short distance then play outside centre.

  3. You are kind of a good forward. Your best at lock mostly.

  4. by the sounds of things you're  a good player... id place you further back on the Field... if your fast id put you on the wing as you said your hand work is good.. but if your tackling is good id put you half back but since you said you weren't good at distance kick have your full back be a strong tackler and kicker... but use you for runs onto your wing players...

  5. mate if u have good ball skills and off loads u might be better of staying out in the centres to create things for other players

  6. don't be cheeky and play were the coach tells you

  7. i think no 8

  8. Well sometimes its better to work backwards if you know what I mean.

Half Back, First Five and Full Back all out due to suspect sounding kick and short pass game.

Average speed rules out wing and openside flanker.

Lock? Probably not tall enough but in your age group you could be lifted.

Not the build for front row so

I'd say blindside flanker come lock.

  9. Ask yourself this question... Which position do you prefer to play?

With your answer write down what things you need to do to make yourself better at this position. Try asking your coach or top players for advice on improving.

Based on what you have said i think if you work hard on your passing and kicking game and also your speed and overall fitness with your size you could make a very good scrumhalf or flyhalf.

If you get your speed up but havnt developed your passing and kicking game to a great extent you could play outside centre.

But only through hard work and dedication you will reach your potential in these positions.

  10. You sound like a good flanker.

  11. To my mind, there is only one question you need to answer - in which position were you most comfortable and which did you enjoy most? Enjoying your rugby is the number 1 thing - if you don't enjoy it, you won't continue to play. My advice is decide which position you like best, stick with it and practice. Whatever you do, don't just keep playing in positions you don't like, as that is a sure fire route to quitting the game and that would be a shame.

  12. sounds to me like your a flanker, but if you really want to learn your posistion and improve your skills join your local rugby club they will be able to offer you alot of practical help.

    good luck

(btw im a blindside flanker, best position!)

  13. i think flanker or fly half...
