Question:

What Quaker should I go for?

I am planning on adopting a Quaker in a week or two. I really want to adopt a blue one because I think that they are beautiful. In my area, the green are $200-250 and the blue are $500. I want the blue because I am planning to keep it for its entire lifetime, even if she/he lives for 25 years. And, considering that they usually live quite a while, should I spent the extra $300 to get the one I really want (or is that just a waste)? Thanks!

  1. You could spend the extra 300$ but i believe that would sort of be a waste if you're basically adopting the same animal but a different morph. Just think, that $300 could really be helpful especially with weekly food costs at the supermarket(eg.fresh fruits and veggies) and a good pelleted diet as well as the first initial vet visit which in some cases can cost upwards of 300$ If you really looking for a quaker that is blue then go for it. No one is holding you back:) I'm just suggesting that both animals will make equally tame and lovable pets either way whether one is blue or green.

  2. Go for getting the color you want. But make sure it is a just weened baby so it will bond to you properly.

  3. You don'tt want to go by just its color... the best way to decide which bird you are going to get is to actually handle and play with each of the birds. Try to get to know the bird. Like you said your going to have this bird for the rest of its life so you will want to get the bird that is what you want. When choosing your bird take his personality and temperment into your decision. You may find that while the blue quaker you want is pretty, the green one is easier to handle and seems to trust you more right off the bat..and vice versa. If you do that your sure to get the best fit for you. I owned two quakers before and they are alot to handle...tons of energy and lots of noise... so be sure to adopt the one you will want to have in your home and life for 25  years... and not just the one thats a nicer color!  Good luck!
