Waxing nostalgic, I prefer the rides on those historical properties of yesteryear, now relegated to the duty of pleasing tourists and rail enthusiasts.

The "Skunk" train, originating on the ocean's edge in the northern California town of Fort Bragg, is unable to be described in words.  It operates year round, but powered by steam only in the summer months.

The McCloud River Rail Road, the western terminus being only a couple miles from my house, offers excursions on their "Dinner Train", which, as its name implies, features fine cuisine along a beautiful trip through the Siskiyou Mountains of northern California, in the shadow of Mount Shasta.  Being prohibitively expensive to operate, they abandoned the last of their steam powered operations a couple of years ago.

For sight seeing and recreation, most any rail travel will be a unique and enjoyable experience for all...............
