What Roger Federer needs to do to continue the journey for foreseeable future? – Tennis Special
Former world number one, Roger Federer, is now 31 years old and needs to sort out several things before he continues his desire to be at the top of the world after ruling the show for over 300 weeks. The hunger to be the best never
declines for the tennis fanatics and the Swiss Maestro is one of those powerhouses who have graced the world of tennis by impeccable and unmatchable accomplishments. The 17-Grand Slam trophies, coupled with the six year-end titles, sing the song of his superb
mastery but he is now a veteran and needs to plan things very smartly to prolong his career.
In 2012, Federer registered a record of 71-12 in singles and clasped seven titles including the seventh Wimbledon Championships trophy at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The achievements speak itself for the guru of sport but
how long can the Swiss legend keep this coming? Every player witnesses a u-turn in his career so in order to prolong the stupendous career; Federer needs to do the following to stay in the hunt for the number one spot in the world.
An unhealthy Spanish superhero, Rafael Nadal, helped the Swiss Maestro to enjoy a successful season. Moreover, the inconsistent display from the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, also eased the path for the second ranked
Swiss but the introduction of the 25-year-old Andy Murray in the elite list of contenders for the Grand Slam trophy did reduced his probability. After a player touches the landmark of 30 years of his life, the wear and tear of body enhances at an exponential
rate. The muscles are unable to take the same amount of toll and the hectic schedule lowers the stamina to an extent where the player starts getting frustrated.
However, Federer has kept himself in an awesome shape throughout his career and that is the main reason of his existence as the most threatening player on tour to date. He isn’t aggressive like the fourth ranked Nadal who is willing
to throw his body for every point and grinds the injured knee in every match that kept him away from tennis for the past six months. On the other hand, Federer is very humble and lets the point go when it is out of his reach. He needs to continue doing that
and that will help him prolong his career further.
When arch rivals of Federer are out of the competition in early stages, he is the hot favourite contender for the title and he needs to convert those opportunities in his favour. The loss in the final of Basel against Juan Martin
Del Potro is something that Federer needs to avoid because it can create a sense of disbelief which is a killer catalyst in lowering the confidence of the player.
He is strong, tough and commanding on the tennis courts. He needs to carry the same attitude and be there amongst the best in the business. He should never try to change his game style because it can hurt you big time and especially
at the stage when you are nearing a retirement decision. Federer needs to do all these things and he will be fine for at least 3-4 years to come.
