  1. No Roman ruins remain in Newcastle. The growth of the City has obliterated them. The place is called Newcastle after the new castle which was built on the site of the Roman fort. The nearest Roman ruins are along Hadrian's Wall, several miles west of the city, where several impressively long stretches remain more or less intact, along with a number of forts.

  2. there is a roman fort in south shields and there is hadrians wall too

  3. Actually - besides the remains of Hadrian's wall, there's also a Roman fort in South Shields - although it's a reconstruction of a Roman fort - it's actually built on the foundations of the authentic Roman fort that existed there and has a small museaum's worth of Roman artefacts.

Another interesting fact is that in various towns (like South Shields) many streets and roads have taken on Roman names - as they were originally used by Romans... well after the Brigantes used them anyway...

  4. Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields...Hadrian's Wall at Wallsend (hence the name)...Some of Hadrian's Wall at the back of the Byker Leisure Pool :) Probably more in some other places around Newcastle too...

  5. The Segendum is all i can think of. Its in Wallsend so not quite Newcastle  but certainly close enougth
