  1. The best place is the Siegensäule and the Brandenburgertor

  2. The East-site tower is romantic because it rotates around and has an excellent view of the city. The Zoo could be romantic with the right person. lÖl

  3. Berlin is such a great city - there are loads of things to do and places to see. Don't go to the zoo - it is very depressing there - sad animals!

The first link has ideas for restaurants.

    Another place....Il Casolare

A beautiful Italian restaurant, with a very scenic view (the restaurant lies directly next to a bridge which spans the picturesque Landwehrkanal - very romantic in the evenings!!).

It is a busy, but nevertheless charming restaurant which tends to attract younger people who like to enjoy genuine Italian cuisine. The menu is simple (antipasti, pasta, pizza, dolci), but everything (and I mean everything: we went up and down the menu) is of extraordinary quality and taste. Try the desserts and don't forget to make a reservation!

    Il Casolare (Trattoria-Pizzeria)

    Grimmstraße 30, Ecke Planufer

    10967 Berlin-Kreuzberg

    U-Bahn: Kottbusser Tor (U8+U15)

    Tel.: 030-69 50 66 10

The second link is from Time Out magazine - also good to read and check out.

Good luck and have a great time!! It won't be hard in Berlin!

  4. As soon as you arrive buy the Berlin Welcome Card. It's a travelcard that works on busses, trams, S-Bahn and U-Bahn. It also has tokens for discounts on attractions. Look for the BVG office at the airport. The BVG system is explained in their website, see the link below.

Berlin has some excellent museums and galleries. Sometimes a bit of culture can provide 'soul music' for depressed people (works for me). Unfortunately most of these are closed on Mondays, except for the Pergamon Museum.

Very close to Freidrichstrasse Station is a place called the Trannenpalast, it's a small theatre next to the river. Cross the bridge to the Van Gough bar. It's small, has a piano with a pianist, is a bit romantic and serves decent drinks.

If the weather is clear take her up to the viewing gallery and revolving restaurant at the top of the Furnsehturm (the television tower). Cost about €12. You can't miss it. It's the bloody great tall thing that you can see from everywhere in the city. Nearest station is Alexanderplatz. The views from the top are stunning.

If you have time and the weather's warm take the S-Bahn from the Zoo to Grunewald. That's the large lake just to bottom-right of the city.

Charlottenburg Palace and grounds are well worth considering. The house is a beautiful place on its own but a walk through the grounds, alongside the river, can be very romantic. (follow the link below).

  5. Germany is such a cool country, that everywhere you go you should find something you like.

Spent 3 years in the Army there and loved every town and city I went to.

So, if you keep an open mind and open eyes, you should find what you are looking for and like.

  6. Hi,

As you haven't said what region you're staying in its hard to suggest anywhere specifically. Have a look at this really good, English language site for a complete list of restaurants of every kind: www.berlinfo.com/Freetime/Food-Drink/res...

And I also suggest the zoo, it's one of the best in the world and might help to cheer your friend up. To see their rather quirky English language site go here:
