I am never hungry. I eat because I know I need the nutrition, but I don't really enjoy it. What medications are available to increase ones appetite?

  1. I can relate! I have IBS and am often not hungry. I will find food unappitizing and have to force myself to eat it only because I know I should. (before I was diagnosed I lost almost 20 lbs and being 5'10" and 140lbs orignially this wasn't good)

If you think you may have some condition I would go talk to your gp. And don't give up if they tell you it's nothing. I had to get so many tests before they figured it out! (alot of them not much fun either)

If you do have IBS, there is a medication called Dicetel that helps to eviate many of the symptoms, including the lack of appite (for me at least)

Other medications list weight gain as one of the side effects (ie: birth control) but obviously you shouldn't go taking it for a side effect! :P

  2. There is a medication named Apetigen, u can ask ur doctor if u can take it. Anyways u can take Centrum Vitamins, it is supposed to increase appetite, if u don't want to take them, u can buy thiamine (or Vitamin B1), there are scientific papers that relate lost of appetite with thiamine deficiencies.

  3. The most common medications that doctors use to stimulate appetite are:

    Megace

Marinol- a chemical from of marijuana

    Remeron- an old antidepressant

Zyprexa, Seroquel- antipsychotic medications that increase appetite.

In my experience Depakote is 50/50, some people eat more, some people don't.

  4. There are quite a few that will increase your appetite however, you need to talk to your Doctor and explain what the problem is before he/she can prescribe you the correct medication. Certain medications have side affects that can be nasty, so you want to make sure you are taking the right one for your situation.Certain drugs (such as corticosteroids, cyproheptadine, and tricyclic antidepressants) cause ones appetite to increase. The Doctor will most likely give you a full on physical, blood work etc. before prescribing these meds.

  5. Depakote - for bi-polar usually.  It will make you so hungry.  Or a little weed will do it....

  6. Seriously, marijuana. See if your doctor will allow you to joiun a local Cannibis Club for that
