Well I know I need to take an SAT, but which should I take. I was applying online at collegeboard.com when I noticed there were two different ones. The first one is the SAT I (reasoning test) and the other is the SAT II (subject tests).

Thank you.

  1. SAT I is for most colleges (Thats the one your most likely going to take)

But I think you should prep a little before you go in and take it:

    Heres some tips:

There are alot of SAT Prep books out there for example the College board SAT Prep book (the best one in my opinion), and the Kaplan one is a close 2nd. The Collegeboard SAT Prep book is excellent because it gives you alot of tips and tricks on how to crack the SAT and it ahs alot of practice questions and actual previous SAT tests from the test makers. Also once you finish the practice test you can go online and put in your answers and see your actual score. Which helps alot! Trust me.

Your second option is to take a SAT prep course in your area. (That is if you cant study from a book). The SAT prep courses that I recommend (which are common everywere in the US) is the Kaplan course, and the TestMasters course.

They are a bit expensive but will give you the information you need to succeed on the SAT.

And the last and final option (if the book does not work and if you cannot take the course) there is a online website (which is totally free) called www.studybeans.com

It helps you with practice problems, vocab words, and almost everything on the SAT.

Good Luck on the SAT! and hope this helped! =]

  2. All good colleges require the SAT 1.

The SAT 2's are "subject tests." A lot of colleges require you to take to take 1,2 or even 3 subject tests to apply.

Some colleges will also require specific subject tests, like Columbia's engineering program require one of the subject tests to be physics or chemistry.

    Bottom Line:

You have to check with the specific college your applying to, to figure out what tests to take.

  3. The one that the colleges look at is the SAT I, Reasoning Test.   Make sure that the college(s) that you are looking at accept the SAT.  Some may prefer the ACT (with writing).  Most colleges accept either test these days.  You'll want to take the first one available, either September or October, so that you have time to take a second administration if necessary before the application deadlines.
