Question:

What Should I Do With A Hermit Crab Shell I Found?

I recently bought two hermit crabs from a mall kiosk and read that hermit crabs will die sooner in an environment like that, So I dug up my old 29 gallon aquarium and cleaned it out and filled it with all sorts of toys and stuff like that. I really saved their lives...

So I was taking a dump and I saw my mom's little jar of shells she keeps for decoration so I looked around and saw the perfect little shell, a little turbo shell that I just KNEW Xavi would love! See, My two crabs were bought like this, Hermes had a little spiral turbo shell and Xavi had a tiny tiny TINY painted soccer ball shell, the shell was the size of those little key chain measuring tapes! So I game him a large NATURAL turbo shell that he immeadiatly switched into. So I'm gonna drop this shell in the tank but do I need to boil it out first? My mom said it would crack but what does she know about hermit crabs.

please give me instructions on how to clean out an old shell cause Xavi will LOVE this shell!

  1. just squirt some soap into it and rub around with your finger and then rinse it out :)

  2. if your talking about the natural shell, dont do anything with it

if your talking about the decorations shell, dont use it

buy a real one from a hermit crab store or something

    like earthbound!

  3. 1. Get dechlorinated water to a rolling boil.

    2. drop shell in for about 1 - 3 minutes.

    3. Remove shell from water (via strainer)

    4. Let shell COMPLETELY dry before serving to your crab
