  1. Learn how to swim maybe invest in a boat

  2. The lake will empty very quickly.  How long it takes depends on details of how the dam fails.  What you should do is get to land as fast as possible.  If you are close to the dam you may not be able to get out because the current will pull you over the dam.  In that case you should put your head between your legs and kiss your a$$ goodbye.

  3. Move towards the banks away from the Dam.

If you are close to the Dam power full currents would suck you towards to turbulent water flowing out the Dam.

    thnks

  4. It depends on how high the dam is, how far you are from the dam, and whether you are close enough to shore to get out before your part of the lake started to go.  If you were at the far end of the lake from the dam and close to shore, you might get out.
