What Should I expect on my first day of highschool?

Im going to a three story 3 winged school with more than 3000 students. Im coming from a tiny private school. I only had 18 people in my grade. What should I expect?

Expect to get lost a lot!   Carry a map and a compass with you at all times!  Oh, and your class schedule.

a lot of new people, new teachers, and new schedule system (and probably some anxiousness).

Take it with stride, a lot of people feel the same as you.

Lots of mediocrity. Oh, man, what is high school if not daily enforced interaction with mediocrity. Expect a lot of young people completely apathetic abut learning and confused about who they are and what's actually important in life (hint: not clothes, cars, or boy/girlfriends). Don't get sucked into the hype.

Study hard. Find your intellectual peers. Get good grades so you go to a fantastic university. Impress the right people (i.e. not other teenagers). Remember, your goal is not to be a popular teen, but to do well so that as an adult you'll get paid lots of money to do something you love. Being happy age 24 to retirement > being happy for four years during high school.

Make sure to meet up with your best friend before you get to school so you can walk into the chaos together. It's pretty scary, but just remember that everyone else is pretty scared, too. Look and act like you know where you're going and you won't be given a hard time. Or if you know any popular Jrs or Seniors, tell them you'll bring them a Starbucks gift certificate the first day of school if they'll take you under their wing and show you around and introduce you to people.
