Question:

What Should I expect when I am assessed at my Daycare Center?

I am a Teacher (preschool) in NC, My center will be undergoing Assessment in April, and I was hoping to find someone to tell me what i might expect, I am new to this profession and totally new to being a leas teacher in a room, and I am nervous...ANY advice is welcome. THANKS

  1. I'm sure the assessment will be different at each daycare center- but one thing I would look for would be organization of your room. Do you have different centers set up for the children such as reading area, blocks (buildling), play (dolls, kitchen set, etc)? Second do you have your daily routine (schedule) posted? Such as quiet time, play time, reading time, lunch? What hands on activities do you do daily? Do they have quiet time? Do you make sure the children wash their hands before lunch and snacks? Do you interact with the kids? Such as sitting in a circle singing songs, reading books, etc.

    These are some of the ideas that I was assessed on years ago. Hope this helps!

Don't stress.  Talk to your boss.  They should know!  If it's NAECE accred. there are specific things they will look for and the director can tell you what.  I agree with the other post--they'll look that the room is safe (no blind spots) that they wash their hands properly and all that, and that you have centers set up in the room.
