What Sidney Crosby may be doing during the Lockout -NHL Special
Sidney Crosby is without a doubt one of the best players to have ever graced the sport of hockey and in the National Hockey League (NHL), he has definitely established himself as a leader in the field.
The 25-year-old has not taken any bold step as of yet during the lockout, the second one facing the North American hockey league in less than a decade, but there might not be much time left for the Pittsburgh Penguins captain to decide.
A lot of players have already left and are playing in foreign leagues in Russia, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and many more, but Sid the Kid is still unsure on what steps he should take next in order to ensure he is healthy and ready to go whenever a regular
season at home does begin.
There is no surprise in seeing that Crosby wants an end to the current lockout as soon as possible, but things are much more complex than they seem and the Penguins leading forward definitely knows that. He will eventually have to decide what his plan over
a lengthy season cancelled due to the lockout would be.
Over a hundred players are reported to have signed on board with teams across the globe and it is not surprising to hear that many more are contemplating the move. Most had the regular season in mind, but seeing how the opening two weeks have already been
cancelled and still there is barely any progress, moving seems to be the best decision to make just right now.
One of the biggest issues is seeing whether a team would be able to handle the demand amount of Sidney Crosby. According to his newly signed 12-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins over the offseason, Crosby will be getting a total of $104.4 million
over that timeframe, meaning easily $300,000 to $400,000 and even more on a monthly basis, which is certainly not something that a majority of the teams abroad will be able to afford. Not only that, his health remains a concern, not only for him, but also
the Penguins as his concussion symptoms may be aggravated in case of any direct hit to the head, but luckily, he has managed to clear that up recently by announcing he is fully ready to go.
"That [projected cost] is pretty steep," Crosby said, according to the Post-Gazette. "That's not something that's necessarily easy for a team, to pay that."
Continuing to practice was one thing that kept Crosby’s heart in North America, but seeing how most of his companions have decided to leave, including Evgeni Malkin, who did not wait at all to make the decision, Sid the Kid is now thinking that it may be
best just to move on.
"It's tough," Crosby added. "We don't have a lot of guys here, so we're trying to make the most of the practices that we can. But it would be nice to have some more numbers, for sure."
Sidney Crosby is a former first overall draft pick of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins and is a player that can contribute over 100 points in a single season. Last season was more of a recovery time for him as he put up 37 points (8 goals,
29 assists) in the 22 appearances he made.
