What Size Mountain Bike?

My buddy and I are looking for a new mountain bike for him. he is gettin a specialized rockhopper for sure, but he doesnt know the size. my bike is a 21 in. and i ride it pretty well, he is 5' 8'' and i tell him he needs a 19 or somethin smaller. any experts on mountain biking have any suggestions?

I'm not so sure about measurements because thats not how I buy bikes. I just go by feel, if you like smaller and more maneuverable then get that, if you like a big bike then get that, just go to a shop and try one out
